The Champion

The Champion

Roger Federer took the title in Madrid to when he put on an almost perfect display of tennis to shock the world number 1 and the crowd. We saw every shot in the repertoire and it truly looked like the Federer of old, showing the play that won him 13 grand slam singles titles.

It was an extremely positive display from the Swiss as he fought off each break point he faced, and won each break point he had against the Spaniard, something which he hasn’t been able to consistently do in the past.

Final score : 6-4 6-4, and with it, his first title of the year, and his first Masters Series title since 2007

Del Potro spoils Murrays Birthday. Federer,Nadal and Djokovic advance

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

Juan Martin Del Potro ruins Andy Murrays birtday celebrations by beating the defending chapion for the first time in his career. Murray seemed in control at the start but the Argentine overpowered him in the end.

Federer makes it 18 wins out of 20 meetings against Roddick (in 3 sets surprisingly).
It was business as usual for Nadal and Djokovic who take each other on in the first semi-final today at around 4pm Spanish time.

Looking forward to seeing Federer in the final. :) . Hes making some steady progression.

Madrid Masters

Sunday, May 10th, 2009
Park Manzanares

Park Manzanares

The Madrid Masters has been moved ahead in the calendar this year and changed surface, all because the ATP think its best for the sport…. Very debatable.

The stadium looks cool too.

But anyway!! The draw is out and Federer is in Murrays half of the draw, just like the Madrid masters last year. Murray beat Federer there and went on to take the title. Lets hope the same thing doesn’t happen this year. Federer will likely meet Robin Soderling in the first match and maybe Roddick in the quarters (if he bothers to make an effort)

Favourite Nadal expressed his concern and claimed it wasn’t a good tournament so close to Paris considering the huge altitude adjustment players need to make just for a week. Perhaps he will go a little light this tournament so as not to put his French Open title in question. The practice courts here are also blue, which also didn’t go down well with neither Nadal or Federer, and rightly so. It’s ridiculous. Bad boucnes are also a concern.

It seems this venue just isnt ready yet, and part of it still resembles a building site….
