Taking an occasional trip down memory lane: Royalton Revue
E ach time I walk through Heritage Hallway at North Royalton High School, I’m reminded of both those who have come before me and those students who will soon take their place in the world.
The hallway is lined with class pictures. Some in black and white and others in color. There are plaques, too, of extraordinary alumni who have truly made a mark. I didn’t think much of this hallway when I attended school there. Most of the time I was too busy leaving study hall thinking of my next class or wishing it were already 2:22 p.m.
But a funny thing happens years after you graduate. You stop thinking so much of what’s ahead and you start reflecting on the times you had.
Seniors celebrated their last day of high school May 26 and are now officially products of the North Royalton City School District. They are preparing to write that next chapter in their lives and their class picture will soon join the others.
In my job as a reporter, I have a hand in writing or documenting those next steps residents are taking.
I had the opportunity May 25 to sit down with senior Adriana Krasniansky . She is a National Merit Scholarship winner and has earned a full ride to Fordham University in New York City to study marketing with a concentration in international business and a minor in communications. While our brains are light-years apart, I did see a bit of my 18-year-old self in her.
Like me, Krasniansky ran track and served on The Royal News student newspaper. She had so much passion for her school.
“Not only have I grown, but I’ve learned a lot about myself,” the Ukrainian native said. “There are a lot of things I took from here. I’m glad to say I’m not the same person I was when I walked into this school. I think if these years were your best, where you going to grow?”
She also spoke of taking every opportunity and being thankful of your support system.
“This school has always pushed me,” Krasniansky said. “If you don’t acknowledge that, you really cut yourself short. I think that a lot of my success, and the success of my classmates, is not just a tribute to the person. You take what you have and thank God that you have it.”
So my hope, graduating seniors, is that you take time to realize where you came from. Be so excited for your future and embrace it lovingly. You will always have a home in Heritage Hallway.
