How long have you lived in Hercules? Since February, 2004
Why did you move to Hercules? My husband and I fell in love with the Victoria by the Bay development and San Pablo Bay.
Involvement in any local groups? I just completed a two-year elected position as Lupine Hills School Site Council member; was appointed to the Hercules Planning Commission in 2007 (but resigned within two months to to avoid conflict of interest; pursued real estate development idea) ; was active member of the Friends of Hercules Steering Committee for three years; current Chamber of Commerce member; and I also volunteer as the arts and crafts instructor at the Nia Imani Academy, where my children attend after school during the school year.
What is your favorite thing about the Dynamic City? Location, location, location. My family and I moved here from San Jose. We spent much of our free time in Bay Area locations that included Napa, Sacramento, Oakland, Berkeley, Walnut Creek and San Francisco. I love being a short distance away (relatively speaking) from all of our favorite spots.
What would you most like to change about it? We need retail, entertainment and family-oriented establishments to keep our tax dollars in our community. I would love to go shoe shopping in Hercules, or wine tasting, or to a live concert in a great boutique concert venue, or even to a good community theatrical production by walking or riding my bike. Yes, we have Pinole for the latter, but the Hercules waterfront is screaming with possibilities. Hopefully, things will get back into gear soon.
Tell us about your featured work. My character series is entitled Brandy and is one of the sets of character-driven, serialized short fiction under the brand ‘The Everyday People Series." [There are five main characters in TEPS, each its own independent series.] Brandy is a look at the single life and professional pursuits of a 20-something African American, single female, transplanted from the racially charged culture of Detroit, MI, to the racially tolerant, multi-cultural landscape of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Splash Of Our Worlds: Series We Loved: Xena: Warrior Princess
In fact, the saga began with three episodes in Hercules where Xena was a recurring character originally scheduled to die in her third appearance. Aware that the character of Xena had been very successful among the public, the producers of the series decided to create a spin-off series based on her adventures. Xena was a successful show which has aired in more than 108 countries around the world since 1998 , ranked #10 on TV Guide's Top 30 Cult TV Shows of All Time
Why We Loved It: Why? Because the show is so unrealistic and fake that it rurns to awesome! Xena combines the awesomness of Hercules with a smoking hot protagonist and you have a hit series. Sort of. Now the reason we miss this movie is the extreme unrealism of everything in the series. From the way you see Greece, to Mythology, to the combat scenes to the age. I mean how old did Xena get? Seriously! Not to mention the fact that she traveled from Greece, to China, to Arabia, to Skandinavia, even to America I think. WHat we also miss is the famous battle cry Xena did when she charged in combat (usually doing a roll while she jumps in the middle of 4-5 people). We also loved the fact that Xena was more comic than Hercules. They knew they had crossed the line and were unrealistic beyond relief and they made a great laugh of it. Great show, still watch it when I find it. Miss the hot protagonist (which i dont know the name) and the battle scenes. Funny show, interesting show.
