Weekly police report

• On June 14, a business called to report that they had surveillance footage showing a male shoplift from them twice that morning. While police were reviewing the footage, the suspect was seen on the premises again. The suspect was arrested and after police located a number of stolen items in the suspect's possession, the suspect admitted to the thefts.

• A possible dangerous driver was reported on Highway 101 after a witness reported being cut off by a vehicle passing on a solid line. The suspect driver then tailgated another vehicle and blew through several stop signs before the witness lost sight of the vehicle. The witness was able to provide a vehicle description and licence plate and an officer was able to locate the suspect driver. As the witness was willing to provide a statement and attend traffic court if necessary, the officer issued the driver violation tickets for disobeying a traffic control device and passing on the right.

• A two-vehicle collision occurred in the 4600 block of Highway 101 after a northbound vehicle crossed the centre line and struck a southbound vehicle head-on. Both vehicles sustained major damage and both drivers were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The northbound driver advised he had been distracted from watching the road when he reached from some fast food. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this incident. The northbound driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care.

• A two-vehicle collision occurred in the 11500 block of Highway 101 after a northbound motorcycle crossed a double solid line and collided head-on with a southbound vehicle. The motorcyclist was flown by helicopter to Vancouver General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Speed is considered a factor and a violation ticket will be issued to the motorcyclist.

Jeep – a Blast From the Past « Dr. Sphinx's Blog

Today, the name ‘Jeep’ conjurs up an image of a boxy vehicle with open roof and sides, navigated by rowdy collegiates in flip-flops.  (If the season happens to be winter, amend that to plastic window covers and Ugg boots.)  But before Jeep was a cool vehicle, it was a practical one.  This 1940s ad displays the Jeep Station Wagon’s  versatility both as a family touring car and hauler of bulky cargo – oftentimes the same thing.  International appeal is credited to Chicagoans and those-who-reside-in-Cairo (Cairenes, Cairoites?) alike.
