HALF-PRICE CARNIVAL RIDE TICKETS are on sale through June 30 at the Renaud Spirit Center, 2650 Tri Sports Circle, O'Fallon and the O'Fallon Parks and Recreation office, 400 Civic Park Drive, O'Fallon. TEEN KNITTING CLUB will take place from 3-4:30 p.m. June 22 at McClay Branch Library, 2760 McClay Road, St. Charles. Event is for grades 6-12. Participants will learn the basics of knitting. Club is open to beginners and experienced knitters, as well as crocheters. Participants should bring size nine or 10 knitting needles and a skein of yarn. More Toddlerific!: Faith-Building Activities for Toddlers and Twos (Bible Funstuff)

Toddlers develop through wiggling, squirming, poking, tumbling and exploring the world around them. The Toddlerific series creates a special environment where children learn simple Biblical truths through play and activity choices. Our church had been using another curriculum for our toddlers and twos Sunday school class (called “Toddlers and Twos” from Abingdon Press) and didn’t like it. So after doing some research online, we switched to “More Toddlerific!” from David C Cook and we are glad we did so.

“More Toddlerific!” (and the other book in the series “Toddlerific”) give you 12 undated lessons including one for the Christmas and one for the Easter seasons. Each lesson is about a specific Bible story and includes Bible picture cards that you use a copy machine to copy onto cardstock paper and color the images (with crayons, markers, etc.) for use while telling the Bible story.

Then each lesson has about 12 or so activities related to the Bible story. The suggested crafts, songs, and activities use typical school supplies (construction paper, glue, crayons, tape, etc) and simple items from home (balls, dish detergent, cardboard boxes, Os type cereal, etc.) to illustrate the Bible theme. We have had no problems getting the items needed. Also, the ideas seem to help my co-teacher and I come up with variations that also work well with our class.

In most lessons, one or two of the suggested activities are related to a food item (cereal, donut holes, animal crackers, etc.) Since we also have snack time during our Sunday School hour, we have been doing the suggested activity involving food and then offering more of the food item to the children for snack time continuing our theme.

Our church does not have many children in this age group. We have 3 children in our Sunday School class who regularly attend who are currently 21, 22, and 27 months old. These children really seem to enjoy the activities in this curriculum. I can only think of one activity so far that was not “a hit”. However, with so many activities to choose from, if you do get one that doesn’t go well, you have enough ideas to quickly move on.
