Partnership set to end hunger in North Penn, Indian Valley

On Friday, a group of Delaware Valley organizations kicked off a partnership that will further their efforts to fight hunger in the Greater North Penn and Indian Valley communities. This collaboration of organizations is working to provide six Montgomery County food pantries with frozen and refrigerated foods such as protein products that are vital for a healthy diet. Friday’s event was held at CFC Logistics in Quakertown, to officially set in motion the partnership between the Nutrition Coalition (NC), which is facilitated by The Food Trust, Clemens Food Group subsidiaries- Hatfield Quality Meats and CFC Logistics and Philabundance. In order to help neighbors who need food in their community, Clemens Food Group’s Hatfield Quality Meats and CFC Logistics are donating and storing surplus protein products for Nutrition Coalition food pantries, which are also part of Philabundance’s agency network. Agencies can place an order each week and Philabundance will transport the product from CFC Logistics storage to the Manna On Main Street food pantry, a central pick up point for all of the NC agencies. Philabundance transports the food in refrigerated trucks to meet the USDA food handling guidelines. So far, three deliveries have been made to the food pantries totaling over 4,000 pounds of protein. “We are very excited about this partnership which enables us to touch thousands of lives right here in our own community,” stated Eric Haman, Corporate Communications Manager for Clemens Food Group. “This alliance gives us the opportunity to not only donate much needed protein to families in need, but in addition, allows us to offer much needed space to help safely store the product until it gets distributed.” “Philabundance is proud to be part of this collaborative effort to get nutritious perishable food items to people in need in the North Penn and Indian Valley communities,” said Bill Clark, president and executive director, Philabundance. “Philabundance is focusing on supporting our agencies in their communities so they can provide the food that is in great demand.
