Nell Nolan's Social Scene: Tributes bring out the party people

A chairing troika in Lynne Gibbons, Barbie Landry and Jennifer Lauscha, who were joined by husbands David, Scott and Dennis, monitored the Stuart Hall merriment that raised awareness of our beautiful state and its rich resources at the 27th annual auction. More than 350 family representatives danced to Louisiana music in the gymnasium-turned-swamp that came thematically alive with hanging oak branches, moss and lanterns. As for the vital victuals, guests relished local cuisine by the John Besh Restaurants, along with a pirogue full of Hubig's pies. Properly food-fueled, folks then threw in their chances for a host of raffles and auction items, the excitement of which climaxed when SH alumni Will Prieur and Luke Roniger led the live auction. Among the most sought-after items were arts and crafts by the SH boys, vacation stays, a Saints package, and a private party on an army truck.

Special thanks targeted presenting sponsors Capital One Bank and Entergy, as well as Jennifer and Dennis Lauscha, hosts at their beautiful Garden District home for the earlier-in-the month patrons' party with culinary delights prepared on site by Tory McPhail of Commander's Palace and other top toques.

Notables at "Knight, " for which the attire was "Cocktail: Shrimp Boots Optional, " included SH headmaster Kevin R. Avin with wife Tootie, board chairwoman Karen DeBlieux and Dr. Peter, Capital One's Steve Hemperley and Andrea, Charles Rice Jr. of Entergy, the Rev. John Hinton, and patron party chairwomen Anne Goliwas, Elizabeth LeBlanc, Charlotte Hebert and Barbie Landry with Billy, Clifton, Mark and Scott. Answering to chairwomen for the auction's solicitation were Jessica Waguespack, Chloe Pullen and Vaughn Downing, whose husbands, Roland, Eric and Doug, made party rounds at the fundraiser to continue, among other things, the school's commitment to offer a cutting-edge learning environment. Said 5th-grader Malcolm Sundell about both the auction's theme and the spirit of our state, "I love living in Louisiana because we never give up no matter what happens." Amen to the boy!

Princeton, NJ Mandarin immersion charter doesn't get building ...

Despite several reprimands by the South Brunswick zoning chairman during a meeting on June 2, representatives of the Princeton International Academy Charter School and its proposed landlord missed another deadline.

Township Planner Brian Bidlack confirmed Monday that the proposed charter school did not submit required plans and revised drawings to the township’s planning department by Friday’s June 17 deadline.

Mr. Bidlack also said the attorney for the building’s owner, 12 P&Associates LLC, requested the application for several zoning variance waivers be adjourned until September.

Zoning board Chairman Martin Hammer and engineer Frank Antisell chided the applicants several times during the June 2 meeting for not having addressed concerns brought up at an April 14 meeting and for not having submitted revised site plan diagrams to the township in time to be sufficiently reviewed.
