ELLIS -- The Ellis Riverfest has some traditional events common to every year since it started in 1992. Organizers also try to add something new once in a while.
The 20th annual celebration in Ellis City Park will feature some of both.
The Ellis Chamber of Commerce will host "Fly into Riverfest" on Saturday.
The one-day event will begin at 8 a.m. with a fun run/walk and continue through the evening, with the Flatland Band set to take the stage at 8 p.m.
Back for a second straight year will be the Pro-Tour FMX team, a freestyle motocross stunt group from Arizona.
"It was an extremely popular event last year," said Dena Patee, director of the Ellis Chamber of Commerce. "So we decided to bring them back."
New this year will be demonstrations by anvil shooters from Hutchinson, who Patee said those attending "will want to see at least once."
There also will be a golf tournament, washers tournaments, kids' games, a balloon launch and a demonstration by Xplosion, a competitive cheer squad from Hays.
Following the early-morning fun run/walk, there will be a ceremony for Veterans of Foreign Wars, along with the dedication of a new flag and a small veterans monument in the south park.
"We've never had a flag at our event," Patee said. "We wanted a way to honor our veterans and asked the city to put in a monument, too.
