Armed robbery in Matchborough
AN armed robbery took place in the Matchborough area of Redditch today at 11.15am.
A postman was on his rounds when he was approached outside Blackthorn Court in Ryton Close by a male who was in possession of what appeared to be a handgun. He threatened the postman, made him kneel and stole his gold chain necklace. He then made off on foot, possibly in the direction of Napton Close.
The robber had his face covered with a balaclava or stocking and was also wearing dark clothing. He was of average height and of slim build.
DS Mark Roberts of Redditch CID said: “While the postman has not been harmed, he is understandably very shaken by this robbery.
“We are not sure whether or not this was an imitation firearm, but I want to make it clear to anyone considering committing an offence of this kind using an imitation firearm, they will be treated in court exactly as if they were using a real gun and receive the same penalties.
“We will not tolerate such crimes in West Mercia and will do all we can to find the person responsible. I want to appeal to anyone who saw anyone or anything suspicious in the Ryton Close - Green Sward Lane area to contact us straight away.”
